Annual Ski Retreat

Annual Sr. High Ski Retreat

This year’s High School ski trip is January 7-9, 2011 at Winterplace Resort in Flat Top, WV. We'll meet at church at 2:00 pm on Friday, so early dismissal from school will be required. This is necessary in order to drive during daylight and to get the equipment before the resort closes. The basic cost is $125 with some variations for boarders or for folks who own their own equipment. For families who have elected not to buy SCRIP, the cost is $167 with some variations. Your $50 deposit is now due - so we can finalize the list, and secure counselors and transportation. Only those who have skied before – or boarded before may snowboard. First-time skiers must take lessons, at no additional cost. The cost

includes: lodging, five meals, equipment, and lift ticket for Saturday and half a day Sunday. We’ll also go to a Christian concert by Tenth Avenue North on Saturday evening. Look them up online or check out their CD from Randy’s office.

A list of clothing for the weekend will be provided. Accommodations are in a motel near Beckley, WV. We will return on Sunday, January 9 in the early evening. Sign up at the Youth Communication Center in the lower narthex. We have 16 spaces reserved for youth and will take sign-ups on a first-paid, first-served basis.

Doing the Most Good

Salvation Army Bell Ringing for Youth
Mark the dates for bell ringing – December 4 from 9:30 am to 6:30 pm. (Note the time change from the Torch. This annual project helps the Salvation Army to “GO out to share His love” in ways
that most of us will never have the opportunity to do. YOU also have the opportunity to "GO" simply by ringing the bells, wishing a "Merry Christmas" or our REAL OBJECTIVE: "God Bless You!"
This year we will be at Gayton Crossing and East Ridge.

Middle School youth need a parent chaperone, High School youth can ring with a buddy or alone if you've got it in you. Sign up at the Youth Communications Center in the lower narthex.

Youth Are the Church of Tomorrow and Today --
What Might the Future of the Church Look Like?

Middle and High School Youth are encouraged to join us at Tending the Flame on July 30, 31, and August 1. If you’re not going to the National Youth Gathering, you MUST (by “must” we mean “really, really should”) consider attending. If you ARE going to National, you’ll want to keep the spiritual momentum going! The youth budget will pick up all registration cost, but meals are on your own. Check out this link for more information: www.se.lcms.org. Sign up today!

LCMS National Youth Gathering

Mission U(niversity) at Trinity! Join us this Saturday, February 13 from 9:00 am – 12 noon. Lutheran Hour Ministries’ Sarah Guldalian will be live at Trinity to discuss witnessing tactics and dialogue to avoid so we do not alienate those around us. We’ll learn to determine the proper time for sharing our faith. We’ll also learn what to do about missed opportunities and how to move forward after conversations gone wrong. And, crucial to gaining confidence in our witness, we will improve in the area of responding to objections. Please contact Pastor Michael to register. Those going to I Belive - The National Youth Gathering, can count this as "participation hours."

Shrove Tuesday is Tuesday, February 16

We Need YOUth! This will be our ten year anniversary for hosting the Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper. The actual time of the dinner is 5:30 to 6:45 but we need workers beginning at 4 PM, till cleanup, which should conclude around 8 pm. A "friendly reminder" that all youth attending the I Believe - the National Youth Gathering in New Orleans this summer, have already agreed to work this event. All the rest of high school are requested to help as well. We can use some help on Sunday, February 14th as well. We'll set up tables and chairs immediately after the contemporary service which should conclude around 10:45. After the 11:00 worship servic (around noon) we'll decorate tables. Whichever service you attend - come over afterwards to lend a hand. This has been a fun/festive event in the past - hope you'll be there.

Martin Luther King weekend is a GREAT time to get away and enjoy skiing in West Virginia. After TERRIFIC skiing on Saturday, we saw Shane and Shane and a Christian comedian that night. THEN THE RAIN CAME. Sunday was a wash. Check the pictures: NO BROKEN BONES!
